G I Sykes Limited is delighted to celebrate a significant achievement, having been awarded the prestigious Johnstone’s Paint Industrial Painter of the Year 2025 at the annual Johnstone’s Trade Painter of the Year Awards, held in Glasgow.

The award recognises outstanding performance and excellence within the painting and decorating industry, placing G I Sykes Limited among the very best contractors in the UK.

The winning project was delivered at West Bromwich Albion Football Club’s Hawthorns Stadium as part of the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations. The scheme involved a full external refurbishment and protective coating programme across all four stands, associated structural steelwork, and the stadium’s bespoke floodlight towers.

This was a complex and high-profile project due to the age of the stadium, the varied nature of substrates, and challenging working conditions. The team had to carefully plan and execute works around major highways, a neighbouring school, and ongoing club operations, ensuring minimal disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

The project has been widely praised for its quality, attention to detail, and contribution to preserving one of football’s historic venues as it marked its 125-year milestone.

The awards evening in Glasgow was a fantastic occasion, made even more special with the presence of snooker legend Dennis Taylor.

Representing G I Sykes Limited, Anthony Bennett, Dan Westbury, James Sykes and Richard Downs proudly accepted the award on behalf of the company.

This success reflects the dedication, professionalism and expertise of the entire G I Sykes team, whose efforts ensured the project was delivered to an exceptional standard.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement. Well done to the team for securing such a prestigious industry accolade.

This charity stands as Kathy’s legacy, and we are committed to continuing the incredible work she carried out within our community.

The golf event sponsored by G I Sykes and attended by Anthony Bennett helped to raise awareness and much needed support for the charity.
