Unipart, Coventry
G I Sykes was employed by Unipart to repair and install specialist floor coatings to its warehouse in Coventry.
The work had to be carried out at specific times as the warehouse was very busy and floors had to be completed one area at a time. Full co-operation between our on-site teams and the client was imperative to ensure that the contract was completed successfully. G I Sykes maintained a flexible approach to the working restrictions and this included some instances of work continuing out of hours.

- Specialist protective coatings application
The project was to spray apply a two pack protective polyurethane coating to the entire building including all structural steel framework, pipe work, plant and machinery following the fitting and commissioning of the new plant. This project was a particularly challenging contract that other contractors had shied away from due to the difficulties involved. The plant was six storeys high and there was very little room around the many floors. Because access was limited we installed a very high narrow span scaffold system and a lightweight scissor lift craned into position.
A specialist low pressure spraying technique was adopted to minimise the solvent fumes created by the paint coating's active ingredients. G I Sykes completed this in the agreed time frame.

This project involved G I Sykes Ltd carrying out extensive dilapidation works to prepare the industrial premises with 130,000 square feet of office space for a new tenant.

G I Sykes Ltd was contracted to carry out complete refurbishment works to a 1930s RAF aircraft hangar and to construct a suite of internal offices.

- Upper steelwork, which formed the lantern lights, was removed and half the sheeting rails were replaced
