History
G I Sykes was established before World War II by the current Managing Director, Richard Sykes’, grandfather, R E Sykes. The company provided painting and decorating services to many West Midlands’ builders and built a few houses.
The company expanded after the war and took on more staff to capitalise on the post-war housing boom. R E Sykes also expanded the company’s market base by sourcing work from West Midlands local authorities.
After completing his National Service, R E Sykes’ son, Gary, joined the company and spent the next 25 years consolidating G I Sykes Ltd as a major contracting business within the West Midlands by offering a competitive quality service always finished on time. He expanded the client base to include schools and health authorities and at one time there was not a school or a hospital within a 20 mile radius of its premises that the company had not worked on at some point.
G I Sykes became a limited company in 1964 and has continued to go from strength to strength.
Richard Sykes took over as company chairman in the mid 1990s and followed in his father’s footsteps by continuing to expand the business further expanding the client base and number of staff employed.
